Thailand is offering Teaching Jobs

Do you want to work in Thailand?
In the last few years Thailand has been importing foreign teachers. This is an attempt by the country to augment the need for proficient English speaking teachers in their schools. If you are a teacher, then you may have the chance of moving to Thailand.
Some foreign teachers in Thailand earn upwards of 1500 US dollars monthly, but some are earning less. The salary rate is higher in private institutions compared to government and public schools. Teachers can also work in hotels in Thailand. Most of the top hotels in the country house English language trainers for their staff. This type of job is often easier than teaching in school and the pay is good too.

Having a training certificate in TESL or Teaching English as a Second Language may not be necessary. But it will certainly give the applicant an edge over the competition. Some schools even give applicants a bonus if they have had TESL training before application.
Why English?
With students whose English skills are less than desirable. And with the world being more globally connected – English skills are becoming all the more imperative. That is why other Asian countries now are looking for teachers who can conduct classes in perfect English.
Other Subjects
Other than the pressing need for English teachers in Thailand, the country is also in need of teachers proficient in other subjects. They are hiring English speaking teachers no matter what their base subjects are. This is all part of the plan to allow their younger generation to learn English proficiently.
Finding a Job
Teachers who wish to teach in Thailand can find a job among the many recruitment agencies in the country. They can also try their luck at one of the job hunting sites all over the internet. However, teachers should always be wary of the threat of illegal recruitment. Before investing anything they should always see to it that the processes are legal. They can verify with the Thai Ministry of Education to see if the school they are applying to is legitimate.

Jobs are quite easy to come by. Salary ranges from 25,000 baht up to 40,000 per month for teaching English in government schools.
If you teach English in private language centers you’ll be paid by the hour. Rates for this are anything between 250 baht per hour up to 500 baht per hour.
If you want to get into the more lucrative business English teaching then why not pick up a corporate job? Rates range from 400 baht per hour up to 1000 baht per hour. However anything from 400 – 700 tends to be the norm.

I’ve been living and teaching here in Southern Thailand for well over six years. I began working for an agency owned by a Thai and operated by her Australian husband. Salary began at 30,000 baht and after two years I was working at 35,000 baht a month.
The Australian sold his business to a Thai who effectively ran the business directly into the ground. She didn’t understand anything about business or public relations and within two years lost three contracts with good schools.
An example of the kind of money agencies get…this Thai was milking the private school where I was working for 250,000 baht a month, supplying them with three foreigners. When the school began feeling badly towards the new Thai owner, they approached me to ask me if I was interested in being hired privately. I agreed, and they asked me how much I wanted per month. I told them 40,000 baht.
It was a hassle at first and typical for some Thai schools, they tried to cheat me, but I stood strong and within two months they had refused to renew their contract with the agency and signed me on privately. The money was good, but the headaches outweighed the money situation by far…and I eventually quit.
Now after another bout of working for shitty agencies, I’ve approached the school where I’m teaching now to hire me privately and they have agreed. The problem? Schools here are mainly afraid of the daunting process of acquiring a foreigner privately, so my suggestion to those of you out there who are reading this with interest is to fully familiarize yourself with the process of acquiring a teacher’s license from the Teachers Council of Thailand, Getting all set with a work permit from the area / province you work in…and finally getting the paperwork together for your non-immigrant B visa…as well as dealing with Thai Immigration.
Thai Schools who have histories of acquiring foreigners through agencies will typically jump at the opportunity to save money…hiring a foreigner outright…privately…if they know a bit about the process of acquiring the proper credentials. I’m presently looking at a position at my school which I would describe openly as a “Sweet Spot,” where I not only manage the English program myself, but also prepare the entire curriculum for Mathayom one through six and all the vocational levels…as well as working to hire other foreigners to work at our school.
Only major problem in my case, or the case of my school where I teach, is we are rural….not located near any major city. So, it’s difficult to get foreigners who are interested in working way out here in the boonies, as most foreigners have to be near the bars, pubs, department stores and the closeness of other foreigners…
So, if you’re like me…no family in the states, no reason to return to the Western life, and don’t mind living way out in the sticks…there is a golden opportunity here. You can make a lot of money if you’re a go-getter. But, if you’re the lazy type…or the non-permanent backpacker type…this isn’t for you.
I live better than I ever did in the states. I eat out almost every day in town, I have the best in electronics here…wide-screen TV, awesome computer equipment, stereo system, ADSL connection, top-of-the-line Internet capable mobile phone, and I pay a measly 2500 baht a month in rent. Electricity and phone are under 1000 baht also.
This, to me, is the way to go…write me if you have questions.

At times citizens are layered like this. There’s things many different underneath than what’s on the outside. Nonetheless oftentimes, there’s one third, even deeper level, and the one is much like the top surface one.
Had a quick read through your blog and found it quite refreshing compared to many on the internet.
At this time it seems like Wordpress is the best blogging platform available right now. (from what I’ve read) Is that what you are using on your blog?
I like to take a look at your blog a couple times a week for new readings. I was wondering if you have any other topics you write about? You are a very interesting writer!
Nice post. I just discovered your website and have to say that I have really enjoyed reading your blog content. Anyway I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I watch for your post another time soon.
Im very happy to read this. This is the kind of info that needs to be given and not the random misinformation thats at the other blogs. Appreciate your sharing this best doc.
