Filipino sailor Jesus Sumook was honoured as a hero in a ceremony at Lynnterm, Port of Vancouver in North Vancouver, B.C., October 5, 2010. In 2006 Sumook was helping to unload a ship full of B.C. wood pellets at a Swedish port when he saved the life of a worker who had fallen unconscious in the hold.

The ceremony took place aboard the Saga Tucano, which is now in the port of Vancouver. Sumook is working aboard the vessel, and the presentation was arranged after the foundation finally tracked him down.

Sumook, a father of two, said he refused to give up on the dockworker as long as he had a pulse.

He began to administer CPR.

“Then he began to gasp,” Sumook said, smiling as he recalled the moment back in November 2006 in the port of Helsingborg.

Asked Tuesday if he felt like a hero, Sumook laughed, shaking his head.

“But I am proud,” he said, adding that his daughters — aged 10 and 6 — have both told him they are proud of him too.

“That makes me very happy.”

Present to congratulate Sumook Tuesday were representatives of local labour groups, including the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, which represents dockworkers like the man that Sumook saved.

The Carnegie Hero awards were established worldwide in the early 1900s as a way of recognizing civilian acts of bravery.

It took the Swedish organization more than two years to find Sumook as the sailor moved from port to port on his global schedule. Many of the ports had no Swedish representative, complicating the effort.

Tuesday, he received an inscribed gold watch, a certificate and a cheque. A lunch was also organized as part of the celebration.

“It is for heroism,” said Anders Neumuller, Sweden’s consul in Vancouver.

“It is a story that really needs to come out so that more people see what they can do in a situation like that.”

Capt. Clifford Faleiro, operations manager for Saga, added:“That he risked his own life to save someone else’s speaks volumes about what he did, and I think he rightly deserves all the praise and recognition he is getting.”

Aquino was elected as new president of the Philippines in May 2010 with the slogan of combating corruption and fighting poverty. Corruption has been very extensive under his predecessors, especially while Arroyo was reigning (2001-2010).

It is most questionable if corruption will ever vanish completely. Aquino’s fight on corruption is an enormous task that will take many years to combat. And it is probably not something that will happen in his presidency, though this initial effort is of utmost importance. Corruption remains a serious threat to prosperity and development in countries all over the world.

A 2010-report by the Transparency International (TI) showed that on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 10 (very clean), the Philippines maintained a score of 2.4 <a style='color:red;' href='http://myblueheart.org/filipina/pres-aquino-is-not-corrupt-from-the-danish-embassy-website.html' title='Click here to read more about Pres.
A 2010-report by the Transparency International (TI) showed that on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 10 (very clean), the Philippines maintained a score of 2.4 in this year’s Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI).

Aquino’s effort to eliminate corruption as the rule of conduct in the political system in the Philippines is therefore even more admirable. A president labelled as incorruptible is inspiring in this effort, and gives high hopes that changes in the political structures in the Philippines can happen at last.

According to a group of Filipino-Chinese businessmen (Anvil Business Club), President Benigno S. Aquino III ranks alongside Singapore’s first Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, as incorruptible, writes The Royal Danish in Kuala Lumpur on it’s website.

Aquino is likened to Lee Kuan Yew, the former Prime Minister of Singapore (1959-1990), who led his country from poverty to prosperity, as being “incorruptible.” Wilson Lee, one of the founders of the Anvil Business Club, said, that like famous leader Lee Kuan Yew who transformed Singapore into an economic superpower, Aquino could do the same to the Philippines, because the two leaders share several similarities.

Aquino also still enjoys the support of the Filipinos. In a just publicised survey on the public satisfaction with the government’s general performance, the rating result was “very good”, with a net satisfaction score of +64 (73-9). This survey was the first during Aquino’s presidency, and marked the reversal of a long run of negative net scores in former president Arroyo’s scores on public satisfaction.

Let’s laugh out our problems for a while, here’s a bit dirty joke, but it’s the way you like it!

The Beard – a married man was visiting his girlfriend when she requested that he shave his beard. “Oh Larry, I like your beard, but I would really love to see your handsome face.” Larry replied, “My wife loves this beard. I couldn’t possibly do it. She would kill!” “Oh please?” the girlfriend asked again, in a sexy little voice. “Really, I can’t,” he replied. “My wife loves this beard!” The girlfriend asked once more, he sighed and finally give in. That night, Larry crawled into bed next to his wife while she was sleeping. The wife was awakened, turned toward him, felt his face and said, “Oh Fred, you shouldn’t be here. My husband will be home soon!”

Spaghetti Baby – a doctor was having an affair with his nurse. Shortly afterward, she told him she was pregnant. Not wanting his wife to know, he gave the nurse a sum of money and asked her to go to US and have the baby there. “But how will I let you know the baby is born?” she asked. He replied, “Just send me a postcard and write ‘spaghetti’ on the back. I’ll take care of the expenses.” Not knowing what else to do, the nurse took the money and flew to US. Six months went by until one day the doctor’s wife called him at the office. “Dear, you received a very strange postcard in the mail today from US, and I don’t understand what it means.” The doctor said, “Just wait until I get home and I will explain it to you.” Later that evening, the doctor came home, read the postcard, fell to the floor with a heart attack. Paramedics rushed him to the ER. The lead medic stayed back to comfort the wife. He asked what trauma had precipitated the cardiac arrest. So the wife picked up the card and read, “Spaghetti, spaghetti, spaghetti, spaghetti-two with sausage and meatballs, two without.”

What’s the name daddy? – a high school girl finally had the opportunity to go to a party alone. Since she was a good looking, she was a bit nervous about what to do if boys hit on her. Her mom said, “It is very easy! Whenever a boy starts hitting on you, ask him ‘What will be the name of our baby?’ that will scare the off.” So off she went. After a while at the party a boy started dancing with her and, little by little, kissing her and touching her. She asked him, “What will be the name of our baby?” The boy found some excuse and disappeared. Some time later the same thing happened again, a boy started to kiss her neck, her shoulders. She stopped him and asked him, “What will be the name of our baby?” He ran off. Later on, another boy invited her for a walk. After a few minutes he started kissing her and she asked him, “What will our baby be called?” He continued, now slowly taking her clothes off. “What will be the name of our baby?” she asked once more. He began to have sex with her. “What will be the name of our baby?!” she asked again. After he was done, he peeled off his condom, tied it in a knot and said, “If he gets out of this one…David Copperfield!”

Grandma’s boyfriend – a ten year-old boy went to visit his grandmother one day. Playing with his toys in her bedroom while grandma was dusting, he looked up and said, “Grandma, how come you don’t have a boyfriend now that Grandpa went to heaven?” Grandma replied: “Honey, my TV is my boyfriend. I can sit in my bedroom and watch at all day long. The religious programs make me feel good and the comedies make me laugh. I’m happy with my TV as my boyfriend.” Grandma turned on the TV, and the reception was terrible. She started adjusting the knobs, trying to get the picture in focus. Frustrated, she started hitting the backside of the TV hoping to fix the problem. The little boy heard the doorbell ring, so he hurried to open the door, and there stood Grandma’s minister. The minister said, “Hello son is your Grandma home?” the little boy replied, “Yeah, she’s in the bedroom banging’ her boyfriend.”

Sex shouldn’t resemble Naked Twister. Too much twisting and contorting can leave a woman feeling like a sexless member of Cirque du Soleil. “Unlike men, women can lose an orgasm almost in the midst of having one,” says Ian Kerner, Ph.D., author of She Comes First and He Comes Next. The solution? This simple series of positions, designed to help you flow naturally from move to move without ending up like a flesh pretzel.

Missionary – It’s tame, but it’s a natural starter because of strong eye contact, says Kerner. “But men often ejaculate faster because of the friction.” To last longer and keep her happy, switch to a move that maintains clitoral pressure without so much thrusting.

Spider – Sit back and pull her toward you while you both lift your knees. “Physically, it allows her to feel a deeper, more intense, more intimate stimulation than missionary, with less friction,” says Candida Royalle, author of How to Tell a Naked Man What to Do.

Reverse Cowgirl – Encourage her to turn around and face away from you. This creates G-spot stimulation for her, and the change will help you hold out longer. If she seems uncomfortable on top, resume the spider or try the spork, two natural transitions.

Doggy-style – “It’s the most arousing position for men, because it’s the most primal,” says Linda Banner, Ph.D., author of Advanced Sexual Techniques. The angle also allows for deeper penetration, which ups your chances of stimulating her G-spot.

Belly Flop – Grab a pillow and enjoy a little downtime. “Lay the woman on her stomach with the pillow under her hips so her pelvis is angled and you have a better chance of hitting her G-spot,” says Banner. Extend your arms to keep the weight off her.

Lazy Man – Here’s another move that maintains intimacy. Simply lean back and gently pull her on top. “This can help women feel in control,” says Sarah Janosik, a sex therapist and cofounder and clinical director of the Austin Center for Sexual Medicine.

Spork – Similar to spooning but slightly more ambitious, this position makes a natural bridge to more creative positions. “If she’s limber enough, he can also lift her leg, thus increasing penetration”.

Man Chair – Once past the basics, positions become “more about psychological novelty”. Doggy-style is about your dominance, but from there you can naturally transition into this rear-entry position that puts her in the driver’s seat.

MANILA, Philippines—The exodus of Filipino teachers to other countries is expected to continue in the coming years, according to a labor group.
The Public Services Labor Independent Confederation (PSLINK) said on Wednesday two places were the likely magnets for Filipino teachers—the United States, which would need two million teachers in the coming decade, and Arab countries, which would need at least 450,000 teachers.
The group said teacher shortages, growing populations, and expanding educational systems in many other countries coupled with the dismal work conditions and salaries at home could push local teachers to go abroad.
“Demand for teachers across the United States continues to remain high even if the North American country’s economy is in a deep recession,” said Annie Enriquez-Geron, More »

“Demand for teachers across the United States continues to remain high even if the North American country’s economy is in a deep recession,” said Annie Enriquez-Geron, PSLINK general secretary.

“There are estimates that the United States will need to employ an additional two million teachers in the coming decade to maintain its current educational standards and closer to three million if it strives to improve them in order to stay globally competitive,” she added.

Geron said more than 10,000 foreign teachers are recruited by the United States every year to fill its demand.

“There is also very high demand for new science and math teachers in the US with estimates by the Business-Higher Education Forum in Washington putting the figure at 200,000 at the least,” she added.

In the last 10 years, around 4,000 Filipino teachers—mostly math, science, English, and special education teachers—left the country. This figure included only new hires for teaching jobs and did not include those who left the country for work other than teaching, the paper said.

The top destinations were the United States, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, the paper added.

According to a UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (Unesco) study, Geron said, the Arab states will face “the greatest teacher shortage in the drive to provide every child with a primary education by 2015 as the region will need to raise the current stock by 26 percent and create another 450,000 teaching posts in less than a decade.”

“As more developed countries face a graying workforce, they are increasingly resorting to the recruitment of skilled teachers from less developed countries. This phenomenon had already been foreseen by (European) countries since the ’90s, warning that aging teaching forces may eventually lead to shortages,” Geron said.

“For instance, more than 60 percent of all primary teachers are over 40 years of age in Canada, Italy, and the Netherlands; and more than 40 percent are over 50 years old in Germany and Sweden,” she said.

Geron said another factor contributing to teacher shortages in more developed countries was the declining interest of their nationals in entering the teaching profession.

According to a survey conducted by the temporary staffing agency Manpower Inc., teaching is the second hardest job to fill in the US. Many of their nationals, the study said, would rather pursue other more financially rewarding careers than become a teacher. Low salary and unattractive working conditions were often cited as reasons not to enter the teaching profession, Geron said. (But for a teacher from a developing nation, salaries would still be significantly more than what they earn at home.)

“Unfortunately, instead of addressing employment conditions of the teaching sector, governments of more developed countries are finding it more convenient and economical to recruit migrant workers, many of whom are offered lower pay and contractual jobs that deprived them of their due benefits,” she added.

Geron said the dependence on migrant skilled teachers in developed countries was leading to aggressive recruitment strategies by their governments, recruitment agencies, and the private schools themselves.

“There have even been governments which have created special agencies just to recruit teachers from other countries. Private teacher recruitment agencies in the United Kingdom have mushroomed to more than 100 while there are more or less 70 in the United States,” she added.

There are many beautiful Filipinas who are internationally famous. Philippine girls are not only beautiful, but they are also charming and cheerful. The Filipina heart is often sincere and faithful in her relationships.

Philippine girls always respect her elders. Most of the time, she will seek approval from her parents before she can accept any suitor to court her. Filipina women in the Philippines live with her parents for as long as she is still unmarried no matter how old she is.

To win her Filipina heartyou should be really willing to visit her family and introduce yourself formally to her parents. It is disrespectful if a man courts a Filipina girl without informing her parents! In the Philippines, you should know that it is always expected that the man must show his face to the Filipina girl’s family or else her whole family will not approve of you!

Many Filipina women have a heart of gold. They are also very sweet, loving, romantic, loyal and really faithful to the man they love. So, if you want to marry a Filipina lady, you should focus to win her Filipina heart, and you can have a faithful and loving beautiful Filipina girlfriend. However, you have to be really patient in your courtship and really sincere in your intentions so you will win the love of her Filipina heart and make her your Philippine bride.

It is often thought that having a serious relationship is a stepping stone to marriage. Therefore, a boyfriend must meet all the requirements of the family before he can marry a Philippine girl. The Filipina girl is also expected to guard herself and to be very strong and do not surrender to temptations so she can be pure for her future husband. It is also because most Filipino men in the Philippines usually are not willing to marry a Filipina girl who is not pure anymore. Her family will also feel ashamed of her disgrace. That is why for Philippine girls, a relationship is taken very seriously and marriage is a lifetime commitment.

Well, if you have decided to extend your wings in a new environment, make sure that you do a research whether your education will be valued in other country.

If you studied in a distant learning program which is not affiliated with a large, mainstream institution there is a lesser chance that your profession will be given recognition in another place. But if you studied in a reputable college or university in North America, you are fortunate enough to be recognized and given job opportunities.

There’s also a disadvantage if you have completed an education where the set of rules vary from country to country, such as law, you have to take equivalency tests or re-certification before you qualify for a job.

Experts’ advice that before sending out your résumés, you must seek a professional association in your community to assist you in assuring that your profession will be respected in other countries and what will be the necessary documents that you should have in hand before applying.

The local professional groups will help you and give you connection with new people that might be of great help with your overseas job search.

It is also advised that you start doing it while you are still studying. You can ask your international office and career office for some details about work-abroad programs that are available for you. Having a program that is related with your education is a big help for your career training.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a job that is not in any way related in your field but you are sure that you are flexible enough to do it well. Then it is a must that you have a legal job waiting for you in the host country before heading abroad.

One of the more exiting jobs is to work in a Zoo in Australia.

In the last few years Thailand has been importing foreign teachers. This is an attempt by the country to augment the need for proficient English speaking teachers in their schools. If you are a teacher, then you may have the chance of moving to Thailand.

Some foreign teachers in Thailand earn upwards of 1500 US dollars monthly, but some are earning less. The salary rate is higher in private institutions compared to government and public schools.
Having a training certificate in TESL or Teaching English as a Second Language may not be necessary. But it will certainly give the applicant an edge over the competition. Some schools even give applicants a bonus if they have had TESL training before application.

Why English?

With students whose English skills are less than desirable. And with the world being more globally connected – English skills are becoming all the more imperative. That is why other Asian countries now are looking for teachers who can conduct classes in perfect English.

Other Subjects

Other than the pressing need for English teachers in Thailand, the country is also in need of teachers proficient in other subjects. They are hiring English speaking teachers no matter what their base subjects are. This is all part of the plan to allow their younger generation to learn English proficiently.

Finding a Job

Teachers who wish to teach in Thailand can find a job among the many recruitment agencies in the country. They can also try their luck at one of the job hunting sites all over the internet. However, teachers should always be wary of the threat of illegal recruitment. Before investing anything they should always see to it that the processes are legal. They can verify with the Thai Ministry of Education to see if the school they are applying to is legitimate.
